What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula is a trained professional who provides physical, emotional, and educational support to families after the birth of a baby. Postpartum Doulas assist with basic newborn care, offer breast/chest-feeding support, help with meal preparation, light household tasks, and provide evidence-based information on infant soothing techniques and postpartum recovery. They also offer emotional support to new parents, helping them process their birth experience, cope with sleep deprivation, and manage the emotional ups and downs that often accompany the postpartum period.
In essence, a Postpartum Doula is a guardian of the entire family's well-being, offering reassurance, information, and practical assistance to help parents feel confident and cared for during this significant life transition into parenthood, whether it’s the first baby or not, and answer all those burning questions or calm those anxious nerves you may have regarding the new world you've just entered.
